PROZAC Precautions
PRECAUTIONS BEFORE TAKING PROZAC:
If you are allergic to any medicine, let your Doctor know. Let your Doctor also know about your personal and family medical history.
If you are using any of the following drugs or you are allergic to any drug, consult your Doctor before starting Prozac Treatment
- Pimozide
- Thioridazine
- Isocarboxazid
- Tranylcypromine
- Phenelzine
- Rasagiline
- Selegiline
If these drugs are taken with the combination of Prozac, serious and sometimes fatal reaction can occur. You have to wait for two weeks after stopping an MAO inhibitor before you take Prozac.
You must order Prozac only after you have informed your doctor about you having ever had a history of:
- Cirrhosis of the liver
- Kidney disease
- Diabetes
- Low Sodium in Blood
- Seizures or epilepsy
- Bipolar disorder
- History of drug abuse
- Intestine Ulcer
- Suicidal thoughts
If you are suffering from the above conditions, you may not use Prozac or your doctor might adjust your dose, change dosing schedules or recommend special tests to be taken.
If you thought about suicide while you started taking antidepressants, tell your Doctor if your depression is worsening during the first several weeks of Prozac treatment or if the dose of Prozac is changed.
Members of your family and caregivers should also be alerted about the changes in your moods and the Doctor should check you at regular visits for at least 12 weeks of Prozac treatment.
Consult your Doctor before taking Prozac, if you are pregnant, or if you are planning to conceive.
As Prozac passes into breast milk, do not use Prozac without consulting your doctor especially if you are breast - feeding.
Prozac may cause life threatening lung problems to newborn babies whose mothers take Prozac during pregnancy. However, if you are pregnant or are under treatment, you must discontinue Prozac.
Prozac is the only approved drug of depression for children. However, Do not give Prozac to children younger than 18 years old without a doctors advice.
As Prozac Makes you dizzy or drowsy, use caution while driving and operating machinery.
Always avoid taking alcoholic beverages when you are under Prozac treatment
Untreated depression can cause serious effects. Discontinuing Prozac without your Doctors permission may cause allergic reaction.
